“You’ll be left behind if you don’t do it,” “It’s the future of marketing,” “If you’re NOT using Social Marketing… A pox will befall your family and you will be swallowed up by a bottomless abyss” Ok… I made up the last one The point is – you’ve seen the incredible claims, scare tactics, and “Buzz” about Social Marketing… The claims have become so outrageous about the “streets paved with gold”; it has become difficult to tell reality from fantasy. This inaugural issue of vNews is devoted to the Good, Bad and Ugly side of Social Marketing. The “Bad” I hope you’ll forgive me but we are going to tackle the “Bad” first… there is just soooo much misinformation on Social Marketing; we need to get rid of the myths first. (see Video below) Then we’ll tackle the “Good”… yes, Social Marketing has its place… it’s just not a cure all for getting traffic to your site. Truth be told, unless you come up with the next “Obama Girl” video or you know how to “Digg” your way to the top, you’ll get very little traffic for the effort involved (I’m big on Return On Effort, ROE) Finally the “Ugly”… Social Media sites are already fortifying their defenses against spam and abuse…
